Will converting PNG to WEBP lose quality?

Some. Since png is lossless-oriented and webp is lossy-oriented, the encoder will discard detail it judges least visible; the quality slider controls how aggressive that is. Keep the original .png if you may need a pristine master later.

Where will the WEBP file work?

Older tools from before roughly 2020 — legacy Photoshop releases, older email clients, many kiosk printers — commonly fail on it, so JPEG or PNG remains the safer handoff format outside the browser.

Will the WEBP file be bigger or smaller than my PNG?

What happens to the metadata in my PNG file?

In .png, text metadata lives in tEXt/iTXt chunks and XMP can be embedded there; standardized EXIF arrived late via the 2017 eXIf chunk, so many tools still drop EXIF when writing PNG. Re-encoding through the browser pipeline does not carry embedded metadata into the output, which doubles as a privacy scrub — check the exported file if you specifically need tags preserved.

Can I convert WEBP back to PNG?

Yes — the reverse route exists as a separate tool. Bear in mind that round-tripping .png → .webp → .png is not a perfect undo when any lossy step is involved; keep your original if fidelity matters.
