An .orf file is an Olympus RAW Format photograph from Olympus and successor OM System cameras, storing the Four Thirds sensor's output before in-camera processing. The extension has covered every Olympus digital generation from early E-system DSLRs through today's OM-1 mirrorless bodies.

A .ppm file is a Portable Pixmap: a full-colour image storing three samples — red, green and blue — per pixel, with the maximum channel value declared in the header. It is the top rung of the Netpbm ladder and the most commonly encountered of the three. In .orf, eXIF is complete and Olympus MakerNotes are unusually detailed about stabilization, focus bracketing, and computational modes; XMP normally lives in sidecars. Re-encoding through the browser pipeline does not carry embedded metadata into the output, which doubles as a privacy scrub — check the exported file if you specifically need tags preserved.
